The Mid-Winter Marg

The Mid-Winter Marg

We love a good margarita, but for some reason, they've been relegated to the summer months. So when the craving for one of our go-to cocktails struck during the middle of winter, we decided to winterize the margarita with fresh seasonal citrus and spicy chile salt.

One of our favorite winter fruits is the perfectly balanced, sweet and tart pink grapefruit. Adding equal parts lime and grapefruit to tequila (we like this one from Espolõn) and Cointreau results in a delicious Mid-Winter Margarita. Add a spicy chile salt rim, and prepare yourself to be transported back to those perfect summer days, even in the middle of a pesky polar vortex.

The Mid-Winter Marg
makes two cocktails

  • 3 shots of tequila
  • 1 & 1/2 shots Cointreau
  • 1 & 1/2 shots fresh lime juice
  • 1 & 1/2 shots fresh grapefruit juice
  • 2 slices of fresh lime (to garnish)
  • Chile Salt
  1. Combine the tequila, Cointreau, lime juice and grapefruit juice in the shaker.
  2. Add ice to above the level of the liquid and shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
  3. Strain the mixture into chilled rocks glasses rimmed with chile salt and containing large cubes of ice. Garnish with lime slices.
