5...4...3...2...Drink! Nothing rings in the new year better than a bottle of bubbly. Unless that bubbly also contains lemon juice and cognac (for added elegance, of course) like this French 750 cocktail. What does the 750 stand for, you ask? Well, this recipe also calls for a full 750-milliliter bottle of Champagne, so be prepared to put those resolutions on hold for just one more day. Cheers!
1 (750-milliliter) bottle cognac
6 ounces fresh lemon juice
4 ounces Classic Simple Syrup (see below)
2 (750-milliliter) bottles dry Champagne, chilled
Long lemon peel twists, for garnish
In a large pitcher or a punch bowl, pre-batch by combining the cognac, lemon juice, syrup, and 1 1/4 cups water, and chill for at least an hour. Keep the Champagne chilled until party time.
To make individual drinks, pour about 3 ounces of the batch into a large coupe, and top with 3 ounces of Champagne. Garnish with a lemon twist.
