The L Train

What better time to revisit one of our favorite cool weather cocktails from our cocktail book Shake than Throwback Thursday? Named for the subway train that leads directly to our Bushwick workshop, The L Train is a lavender cocktail that's perfect for brightening up the colder months ahead.

At the end of each summer, we pay a visit to the Union Square Farmers Market in New York City to gather late-season lavender to dry. While drying several bunches of fresh lavender can provide you with a full supply throughout the year (and makes a room smell amazing), you can also buy dried lavender for your cocktails in many of the stores where you find other dried herbs and spices.

Gin, lemon juice and elderflower liqueur join the dried lavender in the Mason Shaker. After a good shake, the mixture is strained into two chilled coupe glasses. Pro tip: this cocktail is best enjoyed with friends on an overcast, drizzly day.
