The Holiday Rum Punch

The holidays have arrived, and with them, the return of festive cocktails. For our holiday gatherings this year we'll be shaking up batches of sparkling rum punch. Our punch recipe pairs Morris Kitchen Grenadine syrup with fresh lemon juice, good aged rum and sparkling wine to create a crowd pleasing cocktail that's easy to make -- so we can spend more time with friends and family and less time playing bartender.

We use Grenadine syrup in this rum punch, but what is Grenadine exactly? Grenadine has become a staple behind bars around the world as a cocktail syrup that adds a sweet-tart flavor and bright red color to drinks. While Grenadine was originally made of just sweetened pomegranate juice, many Grenadine syrups these days use artificial colors and flavors. We avoid these mass-market products and use Morris Kitchen Grenadine syrup, which is crafted in small batches in Brooklyn from real pomegranate juice. Accented with flavors of vanilla and orange, it lends a notably festive flavor to this holiday cocktail.

makes one cocktail

Note: to make cocktails for a crowd you can shake up to four servings at a time in the Mason Shaker.

  • 1 shot amber rum
  • 1/2 shot Morris Kitchen grenadine syrup
  • 1/2 shot lemon juice
  • 1 shot sparkling wine
  • 1 dash aromatic bitters
  • 1 orange peel or cherry (for garnish)
  1. Reserve sparkling wine. Combine all remaining ingredients in the Mason Shaker.
  2. Add ice and shake for 10 seconds.
  3. Strain into a glass with ice, leaving enough room for sparkling wine.
  4. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with orange peel or cherry.

To help you shake up this cocktail, we collaborated with the talented folks at Morris Kitchen to create the Holiday Rum Punch Kit, which contains everything you need to make the punch, including the Mason Shaker, a bottle of Morris Kitchen Grenadine syrup and our stainless steel jigger.
