The Stormy Ditch

When summer arrives, we head east to Montauk, New York for weekends at the beach. After days of surfing and sun, we mix cocktails at our house near Ditch Plains Beach and then gather with friends on the still-warm sand to enjoy the sunset and bonfire.

 

Our cocktail of choice? The Stormy Ditch. This cocktail combines fresh ginger, lime and Bulleit Bourbon to create our take on the classic summer beach cocktail: The Dark and Stormy. Instead of the traditional ginger beer, we use fresh ginger to add a deep kick of spice to this cocktail.

The Stormy Ditch
makes one cocktail

  • 1.5 oz Bulleit Bourbon
  • 5 slices of fresh ginger (peeled)
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 0.75 oz lime juice
  • 3 oz Boylan Heritage Club
  • 1 lime round (for garnish)
  1. Muddle the ginger and simple syrup in a Mason Shaker.
  2. Add Bulleit Bourbon, lime juice, and ice and shake for 10 seconds.
  3. Strain over ice, top with club soda and garnish with lime round.
